BAH! AVATAR got robbed!

I am not a big fan of movies like Avatar, but with all the hype I decided to watch it and seriously FELL IN LOVE!

When it comes to movies like The Hurt Locker, which won for Best Picture (Yes, Avatar got robbed), I had actually watched The Hurt Locker without realizing I was watching The Hurt Locker and I think I dozed in and out during the movie.

It may just be me, but totally thought that Avatar was going to be have a clean sweep at the Oscars. Oh well they still won in Art Direction, Cinematography , and of course Visual Effects.

But I do like how The Hurt Locker proved that you don't have to have a high budget/grossing film with spectacular effects and exquisite visuals to win an Oscar.

Then again, both "Star Wars" and "ET" lost to, "Annie Hall" and "Ghandi," respectively and both movies are still highly recognized today, even without the Best Picture Oscar.

My other highlights include the following:

Hosts Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin kept me laughing!

My favourite line was when Steve Martin pointed out Helen Mirren and had said "damn Helen Mirren" where Baldwin corrected him by saying "Steve, it's Dame Helen Mirren." Hilarious!

When Sandra Bullock won for best actress for The Blind Side. She is my ultimate favourite actress of all time and I was so happy for her that she won and knew that she was very deserving of her Oscar.

All in all I thought these Oscars were pretty good and I loved how a lot of young Hollywood came out, most notable Zac Efron and Taylor Lautner. ;P

Anyways, here is a list of other Oscars winners in 2010:

Best Picture-The Hurt Locker Best Director-Kathryn Bigelow (The Hurt Locker) Best Actor-Jeff Bridges (Crazy Heart) Best Actress-Sandra Bullock (The Blind Side) Best Supporting-Actor Christoph Waltz (Inglourious Basterds) Best Supporting Actress-Mo’Nique – Precious: Based on the Novel “Push” by Sapphire Best Original Screenplay-Mark Boal (The Hurt Locker) Best Adapted Screenplay-Geoffrey Fletcher from Push by Sapphire (Precious: Based on the Novel “Push” by Sapphire) Best Foreign Language Film-El Secreto de Sus Ojos (Argentina) – Juan Jose Campanella Best Original Song-“The Weary Kind” (Crazy Heart) – Ryan Bingham and T-Bone Burnett Best Original Score-Up Michael Giacchino Best Film Editing-The Hurt Locker (Chris Innis and Bob Murawski) Best Sound Editing-The Hurt Locker – Paul N.J. Oh and Umm...was it just me and maybe I missed it, but did they forget to honour Farrah Fawcett? If they did...hello people in charge of the Oscars, not all of last year was about Michael Jackson and there were other notable people to honour!

  2. Most honest article on the net, I felt the same way about Avatar & hurt locker. Avatar was robbed by an average film at best...

  3. It's all political. The Hurt Locker was directed by a woman so they had to give it to her. Avatar was robbed!

  4. Don't forget that while Avatar is a direct critique of military interventions that portrays the Americans as the 'bad guys', the hurt locker is all about 'supporting the troops' regardless of what they do or what kind of atrocities they commit. The Academy made a cowardly political decision, but it's not the first time.

  5. I too fell in love with "Avatar"; however, I'm confused as to why there is so much bitter vitriol on the internet concerning this movie. The Tea-Baggers who HATE this movie call it, "Pocahontas in Space..". However, the story behind "The Hurt Locker" has been done before; "Up" has been done before; all the story lines that won an Oscar since 1929 have been done before. It's also true that "Avatar's" story line is well-worn. Personally, I think that "Avatar" is a sign that James Cameron is indeed a great artist. He can take a common story line and make it breathtaking.

  6. Avatar was robbed big time.

Zoe was robbed of a nomination - without any doubt - and in my opinion was robbed of an Oscar. Best actress of 2009, period.

Also how did could "Avatar's" original score lose to "Up"? That's just bs.

Cameron should have won Best Director, and I wouldn't have minded if "Avatar" had won Best Motion Picture. "Unoriginal" storyline my ass. Same can be said about the Hurt Locker.
